NELSON

I had this weird infatuation with everything Steve Martin for a while when I was, maybe 14. I don't know how many times I watched the movie Roxanne (if I watched it now I'm sure i'd see how mediocre it is.)

Thinking about that movie now, the reason I probably love it so much was because of the scenery and the little town where it was filmed. I loved the cool old houses on hillsides and the wacky characters that, I assumed, lived there. I even remember looking in the credits for "Filmed on location..."

The town was Nelson, British Columbia. Well, I had forgotten all about Nelson until this week- guest blogger Fiona Richards wrote all about the cool places and people there on PoppyTalk. And just like that, my Nelson infatuation came rushing back. I'm grinning ear to ear. Thanks, Fiona!

Spent time with my family. Played in the sand. Laid in the sun and burnt my feet. Started on a top secret knitting project. Watched TV. Cooked dinner for 12 people. Went shopping with my mother. Hunted for, and found, some really amazing seashells. Played ball with my brother. Made paper airplanes with my nephews. Left too soon...

ON HOLIDAY...

FABULOUS KNICK-KNACKS FOR SALE!

If you have been by Drew-O-Rama in the past, you know that I love shopping at thrift stores. I have since I was in high school. At one point, most of my clothing was thrifted.

Nowadays, it's rare if I wear anything thrifted. Most of my junk store shopping centers around knick-knacks and furniture. I see so many cool stuff that I want to buy, but I know I shouldn't because I already have an apartment full of stuff.

However, the past few months I have been slowly buying all those items that I have been skipping. Why? In the next few weeks I will be opening an Etsy shop to share all my thrifted treasures with you. Check back for more info in the coming weeks...

SCARF-O-RAMA

I am a total night owl... The other night, at 11:30pm, I had the urge to sew up a scarf. So I did...

I finished it at 1am. I had a lot of fun sewing this up. Looks great on Miss G-Thang above.

ATTEMPT THREE

Still working on the knitted/sewing hybrid pillows. This is my third attempt...

You can see the pillow form sticking out in the back. I thought maybe less of an overlap might help the problem of the knitted fabric pulling and distorting the pillow. That didn't work. I am going to try putting in a zipper in the center of the back and see if that solves the issue. (I can't put the zipper on the side because it'd be too difficult with the thickness of the knitted fabric.)

I am also still working out my overall aesthetic. It's a delicate balance of wild and wacky thrift shop fabrics, bright colors, bold patterns with the overall goal of sophistication. This one is getting closer, I think. I love the colors and the stripes combined with the black and white pattern.
