AIR FRANCE FLIGHT ATTENDANTS

Do you remember in the summer when I was picking out fabric and deciding on costumes for the group that I teach? Well, I recently had to do the same thing for our winter competition season. Although, this time I had to make some of the costume myself.

We are using music from the movie Amelie, which sounds VERY French. The movie is set in 1997, but our show is set in early 1900s Paris (think Moulin Rouge), so the costumes had to be a bit over the top. We decided to have them wear wigs with pill box hats adorned with feathers. We hired somebody to make the jackets, and the rest of the costume is just off-the-shelf dancewear. But, the hats were too easy to make to hire somebody, so I had to sew them. I was up until 2am every day last week sewing the hats...

...I really think it was worth it, don't you? Oh, and I made the neck ties, too, which was really just hemming a big rectangle.

I was a bit afraid of making the hats, since the last time I tried to set a circle of fabric into a large opening it didn't go too well. But I figured it out and it wasn't too bad.

I also hadn't sewn in a long time, which made me miss it. Can't wait to start sewing again, once I have more time.

I was teasing the kids that they look like Air France stewardesses from the 1960s. The kids weren't so sure about the costumes until they got a ton of compliments about them on Saturday. You know how teenagers are... they just need some reassurance.

great hats- Reminds me of the hat makeing spree i went on- although nobody wore them. Def get back into sewing, what happened to the quilt you started a while ago and when do we get to see the bert and ernie raglan on.
