I had a ton of fun in LA. I went to see my friend Celeste who is a shoe designer. We went to design school together and met in our first studio class. She had her 30th birthday last Saturday and invited me to come to LA to celebrate it with her.
I was able to spend time in West Hollywood, Silver Lake, Santa Barbara and Ventura. I also visited Knit Cafe and Suss Design where I bought some really great yarn.
I first went to Knit Cafe where Suzan, the owner, introduced herself immediately. She let me roam where I found some great Gedifra yarn called Chandra and some Misti Alpaca chunky, all destined to be scarves.

I loved the design of this shop, as most yarn shops I have been in are like your grandma's sitting room. And Suzan was really nice... we talked about knit blogs and she was curious to know what the knitting scene was like in Cincinnati... which, to be honest, I don't know much about since I rarely go to shops here and I have never gone to a Stitch 'n Bitch.
The next shop I went to was Suss Design. This place blew my mind. It wasn't so much the yarn itself, but the fact that there were one of a kind, Suss designed, machine knit garments for sale in an wonderfully designed atmosphere. This concept is something that I have been kicking around in my head for some time... part yarn shop part clothing shop.

Suss sells their own yarn, and I came across Suss Ultrasoft. A Viscose/Alpaca blend that will become a scarf at some point. There are two strands of brown yarn spun together, one of which is slightly iridescent.
Next up.. London. I don't know how much yarn I will be buying because of that nasty exchange rate, however...
