I was at my parents' a few weeks ago and took this cell phone photo. It's a paper silhouette of me circa 1983, which would make me approx. 9 years old.
Not exactly knitting, but just thought you'd all like to see it.
I'm not sure about knitting socks. I kept resisting jumping on the sock bandwagon but then decided to see what all the hoopla was about. I started a pair using larger yarn and needles and got through most of the foot. I stopped because the sock was turning out to be super thick, like those sock slipper hybrids with the leather sole. You all know what I am talking about. You only see them at Christmas time, sitting next to the Isotoner gloves.
I told myself I would give this sock knitting thing another chance with a smaller needles and yarn. Thus, the Deutsche Socken were begun.
So far so good. The US#1 needles are pretty small, but I guess that's the nature of the beast. I sort of can't wait to get to the heel so that I can stop with all this 2x2 ribbing. Plus, I am knitting these for somebody else to give as a gift, so I have to finish them before Christmas.
I have been keeping myself busy over the past month, trying to keep myself from sitting around too much and letting my mind wonder. I am a worrier and when I don't have anything on which to concentrate, my mind wonders and I find something to worry about.
Part of keeping myself busy has been revisiting different crafty projects that have slipped through the cracks or have been (intentionally) ignored. One, for example, is the Cropped Cardigan from VK.
I haven't touched this for almost 3/4 of a year because I was upset with the pattern. I am decreasing for the raglan sleeves and I don't know how to keep the cable pattern intact.I did it on the right front and, of course, didn't take notes. So now I am lost with the left front.
I am determined to fix this and get it started again. Seeing the photo above gets me excited again to restart this project. I seem to have some talent for cables as all the cable projects I have done lately have turned out well. This should be finished soon, too, because I knit what you see above in no time flat. Staying busy is good.
