There was a wall in my living room that was very bare. Well, ok, actually most of my walls are bare, which I prefer. But this one was extra bare.
My HGTV addiction convinced me it needed some help. Plus, I wanted some place to pin small art, scraps of paper, postcards, photos, etc. So, I decided to make some bulletin boards.
I really like them. They are not the absolute best, but they do what they need to. And, I have more things on my walls now.
Do you remember a few weeks ago when I showed you the fabric samples for the costumes for the color guard I teach? Here are the sketches back from the designer...
It's exciting to see it all coming together. In case you are wondering, each kid will have his/her own costume. They are the same basic unitard, but the fabrics and colors will be swapped making each costume unique.
I will definitely take photos once they start performing in September to show you how everything turns out.
Sorry for the lack of knitting, lately. I have been knitting, just not a lot. I think that I tend to knit when I am busy... knitting gives me a way to destress. I crave down time so I make more time for it. And, I have not been very busy the past few weeks. Thus, less knitting.
I did start a new sweater which I am calling the Bert and Ernie Raglan because it reminds me of Ernie's striped sweater. I am using a self-striping yarn and alternating a different skein every two rows to prevent any weird pooling issues. It's my own pattern, too. Just sort of making it up as I go. Wish me luck.
A week ago I arrived home from Las Vegas, where I attended the HOW Design Conference. Vegas was a lot of fun. The last time I was there was in 1982 on a family vacation. Obviously, a lot has changed since then.
I was very impressed with the level of design I found. Kitschy Vegas is
still there, but the newer casinos have in interesting mix of campy
casinos, newer shows like Cirque du Soleil, cool restaurants, and even some nice shops. I even bought some Jonathan Adler pottery in a cool little design shop at Mandalay Bay.
It's an interesting place... lively, sad, energetic, gross, prosperous, corrupt. Definitely a place I'd like to go back to, but not too soon.

I had the urge to go thrifting today. Perhaps because of all the money I spent in Las Vegas, I felt the need to limit myself to inexpensive merchandise.
I found some really great linens, as well as a cool orange tray/dish and a coffee/tea carafe.

In design school I had one year of drawing, which began with drawing boxes and ended with a self portrait. I never had to take life drawing since graphic designers rarely need those skills. I have always wanted to be able to do fashion illustration. So, along with a friend, I decided to take a life drawing class.
Tonight was my first class and I think I did fairly well, considering it's been 10 years since I took those first drawing classes. I know I have a ways to go, but I am confident I will progress.
I will be gone for a week because I am going to Las Vegas! Y'all better behave while I am gone, because I know I won't be. WOO HOO! VEGAS, BABY!
Sorry for the lack of knitting content. I have been knitting, but there is nothing really to show you other than some half finished something or other that really isn't that impressive.
I have been working on more wrist cuffs...
They are improving. I have started adding snaps instead of using Velcro, although the ones I bought are too big.
Still having an issue with pressing the seams once the three edges are sewn. I also am having trouble sewing up the fourth edge with a blind stitch. Hopefully, I will figure it out soon...
