i have seen some cool funky stuff like this in a recent knitting mag. it was knit on a machine whilst breaking machine-knitting rules... you may check it out. i got a machine that is not electric for 20 bucks used... you may be able to find something and play around. i like your blog.

Uh..is it even knit? Looks like fabric to me, some sort of chiffon thing.

it actually looks like a long rectangular stockinette st shawl, but with crochet edging only on one side, ending with a big embellishment at the edge of the scarf. Are you going to do this with airy lacy yarn?
