Drew - I wrote up a summary of my Paris yarn store impressions after I visited last year. You can find it in the link below:

http://cityknitter.typepad.com/cityknitter/2004/10/paris_yarn_stor.html

If the link doesn't work you can find it in my Oct 2004 archives. This is based on an initial store list I received from Kate Gilbert (Needles on Fire) when she was still in Paris.

Have a great trip!

Que tu as de la chance!

Do you need a translator? I'm already partway there, I can have my passport fed exed to me and I just won't leave NYC! LOL

Le Bon Marché and La Droguerie are my favorites.
Have a great time!

Personally I am backing la Droguerie. There's one opposite Maman's appartment in Montpellier, and if they'd let me sleep in there, I would. A.x

It s funny, I m a knitter, I live in Cincinnati and I will be in France for Thanksgiving. The difference is (as you can read with my bad english) is I m French...
You've got allready all the adress of good places to shop for yarn in Paris. I hope you will have a really nice trip and enjoy it!

- Le Bon Marché department store (metro: Sèvres-Babylone) carries French and foreign yarns such as Phildar, Plassard, Anny Blatt, Bouton d'Or, Rowan, Debbie Bliss and Noro and has also a La Droguerie section. All-in-one!

More central, in the Halles area (metro: Étienne Marcel or Châtelet-Les Halles):
- La Droguerie (buttons, beads, ribbons and yarn) 9 rue du Jour
- Mercredi et Cie (tiny shop with lovely yarns and baby knits kits) 26 rue Saint-Sauveur

Also very central, in the Marais area (metro: Saint Paul or Rambuteau):
- Anny Blatt, 40 rue des Francs-Bourgeois
- Entrée des fournisseurs (ribbons, buttons, etc and some Rowan and Plassard), 8 rue des Francs-Bourgeois

As for the many Phildar stores, these two might be the more central ones:
- Phildar 26 rue Aligre (metro Ledru-Rollin or Bastille)
- Phildar 68 rue Monge (metro: Monge)

ooo, paris! can i come? pretty pretty pleeeease?

yes, la droguerie! and don't miss the big yarn department in le bon marché, plus there's an anny blatt shop in le marais that i like. yum, anny blatt! there are lots phildar shops around the place as well.

i think polly at all tangled up has a list of some shops and addresses on her blog.

La Drougerie of course! Don't be intimidated when you walk in, just insist that you buy something to remember your trip by. And get some buttons just for the hell of it too! You are so lucky, I hope you have a wonderful time!
