NEW PROJECTS

Thanks so much for all of your comments about Moll. I plan to take photos of her being worn this week, so check back soon for new photos.

Since I am pretty much done with Moll, I have chosen a new project.

Foxxy Brown

A cropped cardigan from the Fall issue of Vogue Knitting. I am knitting it for a co-worker who totally wears stuff like this. It uses Wool-ease Chunky, so it won't be too expensive. And it will go quickly using #11 needles.

do i really need another hobby to take up even more of my free time?

I also bought Denyse Schmidt Quilts. I have always been partial to Chronicle Books because I interned in their design department in the Spring of 1998. Anyway, this book is pretty cool and seems to be a nice introduction to quilting.

I love this project, which seems to be something I could easily make, since it doesn't require that layer of stitching to baste all the layers together. It just uses worsted weight yarn to "hand tie" the layers.

Great, another hobby to get WAY too involved in...

MOLL IS FINISHED (ALMOST)

i still can't believe i knit that

I finished Aunt Moll this past weekend, casting off Sunday night. I still have some ends to weave in, but all the knitting is complete.

She was a lot of fun to knit. This was my first cable project, and other than a few issues with gaping holes under the increase stitches, things went pretty well. Of course, there were those three times I ripped and started over, but that's in the past, and the final product is really great, don't you think?

The best thing is, however, that I knit it for my friend Gillian and she loves it. She tried it on the other day and looks amazing in it. Model photos to come....

CHERRY MR. MISTYS ROCK

If you get in your car and drive about 20 minutes south of my place, you end up at one of the greatest places ever.... a Gap clearance center. It's an entire warehouse full of "damaged" merchandise. Sometimes, the damage is severe... a rip, a stain, a missing zipper. Other times, the merchandise is there simply because somebody returned it to one of Gap's stores.

The other day I found myself in the neighborhood and decided to stop by. (There's also a Dairy Queen across the street, which I stopped at after wards and bought a cherry Mr. Misty... mmmmmmm.) All the fall clothing was in, so I was pretty excited. However, a successful trip to the Gap clearance center is mostly luck... the merchandise is in constant rotation, so it's hit or miss. Well, this day was a miss, so i didn't find anything. Except for this sweater from Banana Republic....

It was too big, but I noticed it had a pretty large gauge. I checked the seams and it was finished how you and I would finish a sweater we hand knit. I realized I could take the sweater apart and use the yarn. So, for $12 I bought it. When I got home I ripped the seams out and had four sections...

Ripping the seams out was actually sort of hard. It took a while since I didn't have a seam ripper- I was using a scissors. But once I got the seams out, the sweater came apart pretty quickly. Just your average ripping.

There are a lot more balls than this... these are just the purdy ones

I ended up with a few larger balls of yarn and lots of little balls or yarn. It was actually two strands held together which surprised me. I don't know if I will wash the yarn and hang it up to get the kinks out or not. To be determined. But the yarn seems nice for a cotton acrylic blend and it's machine washable.

As far as what I will make out of the salvaged yarn, you will just have to check back and find out.
