¡HOLA! I'M BAAAAAAACK! Did you miss me? I had a great time in Buenos Aires visiting my brother. I have a lot to tell you about my trip, but first...
KNITTING NEWS
I left the day before Thanksgiving (it was insane to pick that day to travel, but that's how it worked out) and had to fly through Chicago. Which, if you don't know, had major weather delays. I sat on the first plane for 3 hours before even taking off! And, the flight to Argentina was 12 hours long. So, I had plenty of knitting time. I finished the back of the Skull Sweater and started on one of the sleeves. This is the first raglan sweater I have knit, and I like it so far.

By the way, I didn't have any problems getting the circular needles through security. They didn't even look twice. Thanks for all of your tips. They really helped.
I also visited three yarn shops while in Buenos Aires. Thanks to Joji for letting me know where they are. In fact, all the yarn stores where on the same block- it was the unofficial yarn district! Anyway, I bought enough yarn to make two sweaters and three scarves for only US$40!!

Check out this llama yarn that I found. I bought enough to make two scarves. It's very soft and has a slight waxy feel that makes me think it's somewhat waterproof. I also bought three skeins each of an unnamed chunky weight 100% black wool and a worsted weight brown wool/acrylic blend to make sweaters. The yarn shops were a nice surprise. You could tell the owners put a lot of thought into the interior design. They were all very stylish- not like your average US yarn shop which feels like you're visiting grandma's house.
BUENOS AIRES
I was pleasantly surprised by Buenos Aires. It was very cosmopolitan and very welcoming. I was constantly reminded of Naples because of the traffic fumes and noise, but it wasn't really a nuisance. My brother has a great apartment with a great view in a nice part of town called Palermo. Other than going out a lot, we visited Teatro Colón, Ricoletta Cemetery, the Botanical Garden, the Japanese Garden, Plaza Dorrego street market, churches and government buildings, among other sites.
It was very inexpensive- we would have a great dinner for US$12 total, for example. I only spent about US$250 while there. The most expensive part was the plane ticket. With all the running aournd I didn't get to knit a lot while there and haven't since I 've been home, so I am going to stop typing now and start knitting...
Hi Drew - Love your website! I'm going to be in Buenos Aires for a couple of weeks next month. Could you let me know where the yarn stores are? also, any tips on how to get knitting needles on the plane? My trip is about 16 hours and I can't imagine not being able to knit during that time! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like you had a great visit - I've never bought yarn in a foreign country - sounds wonderful. Glad you were able to knit on the plane without problems. If I had to sit there for three hours without knitting I'd have to up my usual dose of Xanax from take the edge off to barely conscious. Welcome back!
Man-along update: I finished the front of the vest, so I have to block and do the armband/neckband and finito. I'll be posting pictures later today. Thanks!

Damn, that's gorgeous yarn, and for such a steal. I finished my man-along sweater and put the pic of my BF in it in my finished gallery.

Glad you're home safe. When you come up to New York City, I'll show you some yarn stores that have nothing to do with your grandma's house. And you'll probably want to spend more than $250, to boot!

Welcome back! It sounds like it was a wonderful trip. Just to catch you up I have finished the knitting on my striped sweater but I am doing the slowest finishing job ever, really. I sewed the shoulders and I have about 1/4 of the stiches picked up around the neck. Pretty sad huh?

I just kinda stumbled on your blog and was so glad to hear you found Yarn Street in Buenos Aires! I hope you made it to a store called Yanabey--it has an awesome selection of good quality stuff.
