I never realized that the Pendleton Art Center is the world's largest collection of artists' studios in one building. Over 200 artists in one location.
If you are interested in checking this out, the artists open up their studios on Final Fridays. The remaining 2008 dates for Final Fridays and Second Look Saturdays are: May 30/31, June 27/28, July 25/26, August 29/30, September 26/27, October 31/Nov1, November 28/29, and December 26/27.
Here are a few of my favorite Pendleton artists:
510 Studio 1000
Brian Burt works mostly in pastel and some acrylic. I love the graphic quality of his work, especially when he uses masking tape to hold objects and products on the wall. He also has a blog.
510 Studio 900
I like the photo graphic diary titled 1000-prints by Robert C. Glover, Jr. "This series allows me to finally show people how I see the world. I’m in a constant state of hunting-for-treasure I-spy-with-my-little-eye did-you-see-what-I-just-saw? And in the process, I hope to show you the flavor of a thing or place."
Warehouse Studio 311
Paul Wolven uses oil to create some really great cityscapes that have an airy, dreamy quality to them using mostly Cincinnati as a subject matter. He also paints landscapes and still lives. "I am better known for my Cityscapes of the Cincinnati area. This is fine with me, as it is my way of honoring our city and its great buildings."
Warehouse Studio 701/703
Like Wolven, M. Katherine Hurley paints landscapes in a atmospheric, ethereal way. Working in oils and pastels, the artist paints mainly nature. "The miracles that happen every day in nature never cease to amaze me. My desire is to capture the spirituality and mystery of the landscape, taking the viewer where they need to go at that moment."
